BPMN Plugin

BPMN Plugin converts diagrams supplied by business analysts into native Workflow Engine schemes and adds selected BPMN elements to the Designer. The application implements the business actions, connects external messages to commands, and configures authorization before running the imported workflow with Workflow Runtime.

The implementation class is BpmnPlugin. It reads BPMN 2.0 XML and preserves supported structure while reporting unsupported behavior in the import log and element comments. Workflow Runtime executes the resulting native scheme. The plugin does not provide full BPMN execution conformance, scheme-to-BPMN export, or automatic synchronization with the original diagram.

Where to start

The BPMN Plugin pages follow the path from selecting the integration to reviewing and extending the imported scheme.

Choose the plugin

BPMN Plugin serves two application tasks:

  • Import an analyst's BPMN 2.0 model instead of drawing its supported flow again in the Designer.
  • Let workflow authors build native schemes with familiar service tasks, gateways, and event shapes. The Parallel Gateway also provides a visual way to create and join native parallel branches.

Use native activities and transitions directly when the application does not need BPMN import or BPMN shapes. They already express business actions, commands, timers, conditions, and parallelism. The BPMN Support feature explains the adoption tradeoffs, and License Key explains how to obtain and register a license that includes the BPMN capability. Registration fails when that capability is absent.

Prepare an executable workflow

BPMN Plugin transfers process structure, but a BPMN file does not supply all application behavior. Review the supported elements and every import issue, implement referenced actions and conditions, and map commands to the application's user interface or message handlers. Add rules for command restrictions and verify parallel and timer paths before using the scheme with business data.

Treat each import as a conversion into an independent native scheme. Reimporting with overwrite enabled replaces stored scheme definitions; it does not merge application changes or reconcile running instances automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Is Workflow Engine a BPMN execution engine?

Workflow Engine executes native schemes. BPMN Plugin converts a supported subset of BPMN 2.0 into that model and reports conversion limitations.

Can I use BPMN elements without importing a file?

Yes. Register BPMN Plugin, reload the Designer, and drag its elements from the BPMN palette into a native scheme.

Does BPMN Plugin support export or round-trip synchronization?

The current plugin supports import only. Changes to the BPMN source and the native scheme require manual reconciliation or application-specific integration.

Do imported user tasks include forms and user permissions?

No. User Task currently becomes an ordinary activity with a warning; the host application must configure human interaction, commands, and access restrictions.
